all packed and nearly ready to go...

Well, we spent last night packing for this weekend's interview in Wisconsin. (!!!!) There's quite a bit of last minute stuff, like my pump and the stuff Maddy needs to go to sleep with. We're just going to put her to bed in the clothes she'll wear on the plane, so I packed her jammies already. Jay figures he'll just stay up overnight; he was saying that coffee and SWG will keep him up. sure, sure. I suspect I'll need a nap tonight, since my sleep's been scattered lately from snooze buttons, hearing maddy snuffle in her sleep when she turns over or Indy jumping on the bed and taking up my space. :)

I have two bits of evals today. One is the parental interview for kid A, shall we say. and the other is the kid interview that should have been Monday but is now rescheduled for today so that G can be there to evaluate her language skills. THAT full eval will be due today, so I have to haul ass and have my A game on to make sure I get it completed tonight. and I'll have to babysit my computer until she gets it back to me, because I'll be away on different planes and I don't have a crackberry to check my e-mail and make corrections in Word. and no, i don't want a crackberry or iphone, thx. I'd rather be on a laptop for that stuff. I like having my phone be just a phone. texting and pics and video is nice, but I'd rather save the word processing for something with a full keyboard so i can do my 60+ wpm. Plus, I tend to have a half dozen windows open, and I really don't want a teeny tiny screen for that kind of thing. Which reminds me, I'll have to double check my FIA submission during my mini breaks in typing evals, since it glitched out yesterday.

border troubles...

this is a fairly recent thing. As in, I noticed it TODAY. Looking at my friendspage, the little border that's supposed to be around the center column now wraps around the left hand column. the right column is just fine.

but maybe someone who's savvy with CSS or how LJ works can help me out. This happens ONLY on my friendspage. the others are fine. The only recent change to my journal was adding a few more links, so I have no idea why that might've made the left column become embedded in the center column.

Of course, I've had this layout for YEARS. If it's easier to just get a new layout, I'm open to that, too.

i was offline most of the weekend. Saturday was my cousin's son's baptism. Her husband's Greek Orthodox, so that was really pretty to see. Everything in the restaurant started late. My mom and brother didn't show up for the ceremony because he was doing night float. Tho I can't remember if they go sunday to thursday like we do or monday through friday. Jay, Maddy and I were the only ones on my cousin's side of the family to show up. She kept trying to hold Maddy and take her to do stuff, leaving her son to her husband or other relatives to take care of. Normally, I wouldn't think too much of it, but I know for a fact that she doesn't care much about her son, only how much money her husband will give her. and my entire family when they showed up at the restaurant tried to steamroller me and ignore my directions about maddy. No, she doesn't eat bread. No, don't try to give it to her anyway. (I took it away, never fear.) And finally they went away to let her try to sleep in the carseat. Everything was so late at the restaurant that by 4 there was still no entree (and it started at 1) because there was only 2 servers for something like 50 ppl. We had to bounce, since we're an hour and a half away. and despite everything i said, my mom kept trying to delay us to take more pictures. it didn't help that I was boxed in the corner and couldn't stop her from physically barring my way. :(

sunday was better. Much Macross Frontier. :D I love this show. I looooooove this show. And I have a new graphics card, so WOW looks the way it should. :D Unfortunately (kinda) I have a slimline computer tower, so I couldn't get the uber card. wah. *snicker* I had to settle on something that could fit in the slimline case, but it's sill miles better than my old card. I plan on ficcing tonight, so I'll play tomorrow. :)

I think I get so frustrated when Jay is sick for a few reasons. He gets off of work and sleeps in, which I don't get to do. I still have to do all the Mommy and wifey things, and he gets to doze like a lump on the couch. Now, to be fair, he really is sick and feeling craptastic. And Maddy is in that phase where she only wants me. But i look over at him asleep and I sigh. Also? While he rocks for getting me my own computer to putter around in, it prolly doesn't have enough ram and lags like a lagging thing.

yah, okay. i get selfish. but do you mean the world *doesn't* revolve around me?? ;)

anyway, since I got kicked off the server for being afk too long (changing maddy, feeding her, then eating dinner), I think I may write. I get self conscious typing pr0n at work, so I kept that part of goggledocs as a big ol' blank. Now I get to fill it in. And that's easier to walk away from when Maddy needs me, without worrying about the state of my gear when I come back to find my dead body. :)

Jay's old phone died sometime over the weekend, not recognizing its chip. So Saturday while erranding, we check out phones. He ponders some ponderings, then decides to go ahead and get a new phone. Rich is planning to give me his old Tilt when he upgrades to an Iphone. So Jay has the Samsung Impression, and he may swap me for the Tilt in August. In the meantime, he bit the bullet and decided yes, we can have texting now.

bwahahahaha. I think this takes away all of the cranky!baby I had to deal with all afternoon. :)

Now, if I can just figure out how to get my speed up and figure out sending things....

you what sucked about playing last night?

laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag. I totally could've avoided dying those times I died last night. Yes. *nods firmly* Good thing I naturally kite anyway. :)

Anywho, I'm trying a different ethernet cable, because Jay remembered that one of our old cables was sloooooooooooooooow for gaming when we had the apartment. *crosses fingers* here's hoping.

And for work stuff... Here's hoping that I actually hear from my new patient's mom. I'll prolly have to try calling her through the hospital switchboard again, since her cell phone doesn't take messages. *headdesk* These kinds of things always seem to happen when I go on vacation. The lesson learned? Don't go on vacation! :P

and two days later, WOW finally loads. :)

I wound up having to copy the entire WOW folder from the old comp to this one, because some file I couldn't find had misinstalled and for some reason kept slipping past the repair feature on the Blizz downloader.

of course it's late, but um... I gotta check my mods? ;)

WOW installed fine. Burning Crusade installed fine. I clicky on the icon to start patching this machine, and nothing. it gets to about 1M and it just closes. No error message, nothing.

I hate you, Vista. I really, really hate you.

Remember my supremely awesome hubby that decided making me happy with my own shiny new computer to game on is worth the price of the computer?

Yesterday, he put the desk attachment to a table that he had spent the past week putting polyurethane coatings on. He set up the computer. He had put an ethernet port in the wall last weekend, so we plugged it in. Nothing worked. :(

Well, he got extenders and put ethernet cables around the little half wall so I can have internet until he fixes the connection in the wall port.

\0/

So I've uninstalled the crap they put on this thing. I have Office XP, AVG, Adaware, WinRAR, Semagic, Winamp and I'm in the middle of installing WOW. I'm installing the Burning Crusade discs now, and I'll import my mods folder from the other computer.

I may not be able to see movies over the weekend, but I can computer all I want! :D

thank you, [info]ms_katonic. Yay for a new backup. This one I haven't split fic from personal, so it's a direct copy of this journal. If LJ ever goes bust, I've got two working backups, since GJ went bust.

anyway, in the past week, there has been absolutely no fun computer work. hell, there hasn't even been time to check my work e-mail. ah, but weekends are nice for sleeping in, playing with the baby (she almost can lift her shoulders during tummy time!) and I even got about six hours in WOW. well, interrupted to pump and feed Maddy, but I did finish five quests and hit level 42. at this point, i'm almost level 43. whee!

ficcing attempts are coming out a bit more melancholy than i originally planned, if i can even write at all. gee, i wonder why? /sarcasm

well, now i've caught the cold that Maddy caught from Jay. I'm sure being tired all the damn time doesn't help, but shoveling the mounds of snow after taking forever to get home prolly kicked me over the top. today's patient canceled, yay, so i'll be heading out after the department get together at 2 pm today. woo. I at least finished all the paperwork i had today like a good girl. I have one patient at 3:30 tomorrow and nothing wednesday so I'm staying home. tho I still have to pay for a full week this week and next. sheesh. It almost makes me wish I had somewhere to go to leave Maddy in day care since I'm paying for it anyway.

It's not a lot of money in the scheme of things, but I'm wondering if I should cancel my WOW account. I know Rich wants to give us another computer and have Jay play with us. I'm not sure how that'll pan out. I haven't played WOW in about two months and I never did get a chance to play this weekend. I restarted La Pucelle Tactics, which I hadn't played in about two years or so, while Jay was playing SWG. he wound up helping me through a few boards while I was feeding Maddy. he complains that every time he tries feeding her, she won't eat. he hands her over to me, she eats. I tell him he's not patient enough when she dawdles, which is a lot of the time.

anyway, I found fic in my google docs account last week while finishing off my school account. I wrote one for [info]aliaspiral and I wrote a little more in my dirtybadwrong!SPN fic. Somehow being a mom doesn't make me stop writing the wrongness or angsty things. lol. Tho I am better at fluff for prompts, I must say. I wind up writing for writing's sake, not purging drama. I write happier things that way.

anyway, off to post and then I'm off to the hospital.

When RL and OL collide...

Because there wasn't anything prepared ahead of time for case conference today, one of the attendings (the program director, as a matter of fact) asked one of the other fellows to talk about one of her recent admissions to the clinic. The kid is a stoner with history of ADHD and depression, in a vocational school (smoking during auto shop, actually) and spends sometimes 17 hours a day playing Runescape. So the program director wanted me to riff on online gaming and such, since I had offered to do an inservice.

long story short, she'd like me to create a survery tool to give the kids in the clinic and the new screening kids so that we can present something on this for Grand Rounds, since there's really no literature. and yes, like a dork, I had looked it up after the APA for the lulz. There's ONE study of social networking, in the sense that they looked up public profiles of teens and looked for mention of alcohol or drugs on it. Most other studies of teens using computers or internet was to see if they used it to look for medical info. and part of me goes duh, because that is the age when they'll go to the net first and a doctor last. But there's nothing in regards to online gaming, social networking, fandom, console/handheld games, rpg's or anything like that.

holy moly, watch this morph into something that might net me a poster presentation or journal article. meep!

but in the short run, it's something that gets me on the computer. "No, really, honey. You have to let me on the computer to check my LJ/Facebook/whatever. I'm doing research for work!" hee. :D

Well, initially we had changed the Shadowrun game to Saturday, since I had a bridal shower to attend yesterday. Kevin cancelled, so Rich came over with more eps of Dr. Who. We've now finished season one, and next week when we're hanging out for a bit before and after the game we'll start on Season 2. He also went through my WOW mods, and we wound up exchanging the sets I had (at least half of which I disabled since I didn't use it anyway) with his set, which is a bit more streamlined. It saved all of 20M, but there's a lot less crap in it that I don't use. My screen still looks nice and neat, tho it took about an hour and a half to configure. We still have no idea why last week I couldn't disenchant, enchant, unequip or cast spells, since on Saturday I could. We chalked it up to the progs not all updating at the same time. At some point I can go back to Strangethorn vale and level.

Indy was pretty good all day Saturday, even without a walk. Sunday, I spent half the day out. After I returned, Indy acted out like a 2 yo would in order to keep my attention off of my reading. Including ripping out the page I was reading and running around with it. ::facepalm:: I did have fun at Mary's shower. When Chris arrived later on in the afternoon, he took one look at me and said "You got huge!" Of course I don't see it, but he hadn't seen me since the last D&D session two weeks before. Mere was there and told me how Howie freaked at my last Facebook mood entry, since I wrote that Jay couldn't feel Maddy half the time. Apparently, their chosen name for their daughter is Madeline. We didn't know! So there's going to be 2 Maddys in the group, due within a month and a half of each other. That's just funny. :)

Oh, I don't think I updated regarding my last OB visit, did I? My bp is 120/78, labs all normal. Size is good and Maddy's HR is 130. Next week I go in for the sono that will establish Maddy's projected size at birth. There's no official kibosh on travel in August, at least not for driving around places, tho he would really reccomend that I curtail it in September. He was glad that I'm doing outpatient work right now, even with all of the driving. It keeps me off of my feet and keeps any swelling to a minimum.

Anywho, off to pretend to do work for a little bit here...

Pregnancy food and LJ going batshit. Must be a full moon...

current location: work office

I was initially going to comment only on the fun things to note in my pregnancy so far. Like definite taste changes:

  • cranberry/raspberry juice is too astringent for me now

  • dark chocolate lost its bitter edge and is manna

  • yogurt is less nauseating to smell but still doesn't make me want to eat it

  • caffeine free Pepsi tastes pretty good to me now @_@</i>

and last night's discovery: fried bologna is OMG heaven, right up there next to bacon. handtogod. I made it last night with mac and cheese with mixed veggies for dinner and I was making ecstatic noises that disturbed Jay. srsly.

Also? Aside from the enlarged boobs, gas, bloating and constipation that I've been dealing with came the discovery in the past week that my butt and thighs have gotten bigger, too. ::facepalm:: So I'm back in size 16 jeans again. Jay, the love of my life, has at least helped to put perspective on it that these are pregnancy jeans without that elastic band that all the overpriced maternity stores seem to slap on everything. Still, I haven't worn those since the first year of med skool when I gained 15 pounds that I still haven't completely lost. Not that weight is terrifically important, just that I use it as an energy barometer. So I have that added bonus to my exhaustion, yes?

Anywho, I did notice there's going to an LJ content strike this Friday and that other e-friends in LJ-land are up in arms about LJ's owners' stupid tactics. You know, these things always seem to happen when I'm away on vacation somewhere having a good time away from LJ. That's it, I can't do anything in my April vacation but veg and read fanfic or play WOW.

In any case, I'll participate in the strike Friday almost by default. I still owe two last fics for [info]aliaspiral's Remix challenge. I've picked the stories I want to mix but haven't even remotely started them. And since everyone gets slammed with patients post-vacation, it may still take a while. So I'll prolly be off of LJ anyway for a while. I did already make backups after the last LJ kerfluffle, so if LJ does go belly-up, I have journals to fall back on to post my personal and fic stuff. Somehow, I doubt that LJ will die right after this. I saw an icon that sums it up best: "LJ is the abusive spouse you keep coming back to (because it says it's sorry)"

*nods* sad but true.

oh, my poor credit card. :(

now, apparently we somehow owe the federal government this year, though the state owes us. still, not enough to pay down one of our credit cards as we'd hoped. And here I go, putting more money on one of them.

I've signed up for the APA and booked a flight on Southwest Airlines to BWI. Rachel had mentioned a fare sale today that would've made it cheaper to fly than to drive to DC on my own. Go figure. So, while it's not that bad, it's still spending money when we're really tight right now. And poor Jay just this past weekend was asking if I really had to go. ^^; Well, he's the reason why I kinda put off registering, tho the flight sale was going to end today. So that put a deadline to it.

So Maile, I'll be heading down your way really soon. :)

oh, and i still really really really really hate my computer at work. the utter lack of RAM is annoying. I type faster than it can handle sometimes, asking it to have my notes for the day open drags the damn thing down. asking it to look at websites is a chore. it gets all crazy and wonky sometimes; right now even though Winamp is shut off it's still running through my playlist. I sincerely hope the computer in my fellowship office is better than this one. If not, I'll make good on my threat to add my own damn RAM chip in these things and just take it back at the end of the year.

More blood drawn this morning, more appointments made.

Oil changed in my car, and it just clicked over 30,000 miles.

All our things are packed and waiting near the door to be brought to Com Con.

Rich is all set to take care of Indy for the weekend.

I have set up Semagic to post to LJ and IJ; I didn't bother with GJ since they're not bothering to fix up their server space and are letting the site die a slow death. So I'll stick with LJ and IJ will be the backup. That definitely makes it easier to keep track of where stuff is anyway.

We have an announcement for everyone that we're really excited to announce. :D The LJ announcement will be going up sometime afterward (sorry, guys!) since a lot of Otapeeps read my LJ. We should be down there late tonight since it's now a 5h+ drive. boo! That's what we get for living in God's Country. but hey. *shrugs* We can afford to live out here, tho gas costs are mounting.

Okies. off to troll LJ.
